Summary:
ThecompetentNurse,inthesameorsimilarclinicalsetting,practicesindependentlyanddemonstratesanawarenessofallrelevantaspectsofasituation.Providesroutineandcomplexcare,withtheabilitytoonlong-rangegoalsorplans.Continuestodeveloptheabilitytocopewithandmanagecontingenciesofclinicalnursing.Makesappropriateassignmentsanddelegatestoothercareprovidersasameanstohelpmanagetheclinicalsituation.
Responsibilities:
- MeetsexpectationsoftheapplicableOneCHRISTUSCompetencies:LeaderofSelf,LeaderofOthers,orLeaderofLeaders.
- ConsistentwiththeANAProductandStandardsofPractice,providesnursingcareutilizingthenursingprocess,includingassessment,diagnosis,planning,interventionandevaluationforassignedpatients.
- Addressesincreasinglycomplexpsychological,emotional,cultural,andsocialneedsofpatientandfamiliesinaccordancewiththeirlevelofpractice.
- Usingtheappropriateprotocol,administersmedicationsandtreatments;monitorsforside-effectsandeffectivenessofthetreatmentprescribed.
- Documentspatienthistory,symptoms,medication,andcaregiven.
- Assesslearningneedsandprovideseducationtopatients,familymembersand/orcaregivers;identifyissuesandresources.

Education/Skills
- AllnewlyhiredexperiencedRNsmustattendNewNursesOrientationwithinthefirst30daysofhire.
- Newhiresarepreceptedbyadesignatedtrainedstaffmemberandinitialon-boardingrequirementsarevalidatedthroughsuccessfulcompletionofthedesignatedorganizationalentrycompetencyvalidationandaMedSurgspecificcompetencyvalidation.
- AllnewlylicensedRNsmayparticipateinaresidencyprogramorotherspecificorientation.Skillscompletionandcompetencycompletionwillbeachievedwiththepreceptoratthebedsideanddocumentedthroughtheprogramstrackingsoftware.
- Completionofallannualcompetencyverificationrequirements.
