Job Title: Specimen Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Cleveland, OH
Duration: 2+ Months (Possible Extension)
Shift: Third Shift – Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM
Job Summary
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department in a fast-paced, production-oriented laboratory environment. This role involves handling, processing, and preparing biological specimens for testing while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely completion of tasks.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to adapt quickly to daily operational changes while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general support functions in the Specimen Processing Department
- Accurately enter data with a minimum speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Handle and process specimens through functions including:
- A-station processing
- Presorting specimens
- Specimen pickup and delivery to laboratory departments
- Imaging and microfilming
- Centrifugation and aliquoting
- Ensure all tasks are completed with accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail
- Maintain compliance with laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements
- Learn and understand various specimen types and associated test requirements
- Adapt to changing compliance regulations and customer requirements
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Follow all safety protocols, especially in biohazard conditions
- Communicate effectively with team members and staff across all levels
- Demonstrate flexibility to support operational needs, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as required
Work Environment
- Production-based laboratory setting with strict productivity and quality standards
- Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to safety guidelines is mandatory
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Night shift role with potential schedule variations based on staffing needs
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills
- Ability to meet high-volume data entry standards
- Strong organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience
