Job Description: Phlebotomist II / Patient Services Representative II (PSR II)
Location: San Antonio, TX
Duration: 1+ Month (Potential for Extension)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Position Overview
The Phlebotomist II / Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) serves as the face of the organization, interacting directly with patients and playing a critical role in delivering high-quality healthcare services. This role involves performing venipuncture, specimen collection, and preparation for laboratory testing while ensuring patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality.
The PSR II builds trust with patients by explaining procedures clearly and performing blood draws in a safe, professional, and accurate manner. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence and patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary collections on patients of all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric patients.
- Properly label, process, and prepare specimens for testing following established protocols.
- Verify patient identity and demographic information prior to specimen collection.
- Obtain patient signatures post-collection to confirm labeling accuracy.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to specimen collection and patient interactions.
- Ensure a safe, clean, and professional work environment at all times.
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills, creating a positive and comfortable patient experience.
- Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collection as required.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Support operations across multiple locations (e.g., doctor’s offices, patient service centers) as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and patients.
Additional Duties
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high performance and accuracy.
- Handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Be flexible to cover different locations, shifts, and schedules, including weekends, holidays, or on-call needs (if required).
- Uphold confidentiality and data accuracy related to patient information.
- Promote a positive image of the organization at all times.
Required Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Medical Assistant or Paramedic training (Preferred)
- Phlebotomy Certification (Preferred; Required in CA, NV, WA)
Experience
- 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience (including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections)
- 2+ years in a Patient Service Center environment (Preferred)
- Customer service experience in retail or service industries (Highly Preferred)
- Data entry and keyboarding experience required
