Job Description: Phlebotomist I (Patient Services Representative I)
Location: Ruskin, FL
Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM (Off: Thursday & Sunday)
Position Overview
The Phlebotomist I / Patient Services Representative I (PSR I) serves as the primary point of contact for patients, representing the organization with professionalism and care. This role is responsible for performing high-quality blood specimen collection and ensuring proper handling and processing for laboratory testing.
The PSR I plays a critical role in delivering an excellent patient experience by maintaining a safe, accurate, and compassionate environment, while adhering to all established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection procedures in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner
- Prepare and process specimens for laboratory testing following established protocols
- Ensure proper labeling, handling, and documentation of all specimens
- Provide clear and empathetic communication to patients, explaining procedures and addressing concerns
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment
- Perform both clinical and forensic specimen collection when required
- Accurately maintain patient records and documentation in compliance with company policies
- Follow all safety, confidentiality, and compliance standards (HIPAA, etc.)
- Work independently under the direction of the area supervisor
- Promote a positive image of the organization to patients, clients, and the public
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong phlebotomy skills, including experience with pediatric and geriatric patients
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- High level of accuracy and commitment to quality
- Basic computer and data entry/keyboard skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Medical Assistant or Paramedic training (Preferred)
- Phlebotomy Certification (Preferred)
- Required in California, Nevada, and Washington
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience (Required)
- 1+ year of phlebotomy experience (Preferred)
- Prior customer service experience in retail or service environment (Preferred)
- Data entry or administrative experience (Required)
Work Schedule & Flexibility
- Must be flexible with scheduling, including:
- Weekends
- Holidays
- On-call shifts
- Overtime as needed
