Job Title: Specimen Technician I (SPT I)

Shift: 3rd Shift (9:00 PM – 5:30 AM EST)
Job Summary
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides general operational support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves handling, processing, and organizing laboratory specimens while ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with established procedures and regulations. The position operates in a fast-paced production environment and plays a critical role in maintaining quality standards and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general specimen processing functions including:
- A-station operations
- Presorting of specimens
- Specimen pickup and delivery to the laboratory
- Imaging and microfilming
- Centrifugation and aliquoting
- Accurately enter data with a minimum typing speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of specimens
- Maintain strict adherence to safety, compliance, and quality standards
- Understand and identify specimen types related to client test orders
- Stay updated on changing compliance regulations related to laboratory testing
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace
- Communicate effectively with team members and staff across all levels
- Adapt to changing priorities and daily operational demands
- Support departmental productivity goals and turnaround times
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, production-driven laboratory environment
- Exposure to biohazard materials (with required safety protocols)
- Requires ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods
- Flexibility required for:
- Night shifts (primary)
- Weekends, holidays
- Overtime and on-call availability, based on business needs
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills and data entry proficiency
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Good communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience
