Job Description:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department in a fast-paced production environment. Responsibilities include specimen presorting, data entry, specimen pickup and delivery, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and other specimen processing functions. This role requires accuracy, organization, flexibility, and the ability to work efficiently while meeting productivity and quality standards.

The SPT I must accurately process laboratory specimens and understand specimen types and test requirements. The position also requires compliance with changing test-ordering regulations and adherence to all safety and quality procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to support a positive work environment and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform specimen processing functions including presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and specimen distribution
• Enter data accurately and efficiently (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour preferred)
• Maintain productivity and quality standards in a production laboratory environment
• Follow all safety, compliance, and biohazard handling procedures
• Keep work areas clean and organized
• Communicate effectively with staff at all levels
• Adapt to changing priorities and customer demands
• Support night shift operations, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call coverage as needed.
