Medical Laboratory Scientist

Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist
Location: Irving, TX, 75063
Shift: 2 am to 10:30 AM (CST), Tuesday to Saturday
Duration:3+ Months

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen handling, processing, testing, and analysis according to established laboratory procedures and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Analyze patient specimens using approved laboratory methodologies and ensure accurate, timely reporting of test results.
  • Review, verify, and release laboratory test results while maintaining complete and accurate patient records.
  • Process proficiency testing samples using the same procedures applied to patient specimens.
  • Adhere to all laboratory Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) policies, including documentation of QC activities, instrument calibrations, maintenance, and procedural validations.
  • Monitor test system performance and follow established corrective action procedures when quality standards are not met.
  • Identify and troubleshoot testing issues that may affect result accuracy, resolving problems independently or escalating them to senior technologists or supervisors when necessary.
  • Document all corrective actions and deviations from laboratory performance specifications.
  • Report STAT and critical laboratory results according to departmental policies and client requirements.
  • Respond to inquiries from healthcare providers, clients, and laboratory personnel as needed.
  • Maintain complete documentation of all laboratory testing and ensure compliance with record retention requirements.
  • Ensure laboratory work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor reagent and test kit inventory, including documenting receipt dates, opening dates, and expiration dates.
  • Participate in training programs, competency assessments, and implementation of new laboratory procedures.
  • Attend departmental meetings, continuing education sessions, and required training programs.
  • Comply with all applicable regulatory and safety standards, including CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety policies.
  • Participate in internal, external, government, and regulatory inspections when required.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by laboratory management or supervisors.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of clinical laboratory testing principles and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), laboratory regulations, and quality management systems.
  • Experience working with laboratory information systems (LIS) and multiple computer applications.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in laboratory testing and documentation.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology (preferred), Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Biology; OR
  • Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; OR
  • Qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433.
  • International candidates must provide a credential evaluation from the International Education Research Foundation (IERF).
  • U.S. graduates must provide official academic transcripts.
  • National certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) through ASCP, AMT, or an equivalent recognized organization is preferred or must be obtainable.
  • State licensure, where required.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing preferred.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology should have at least 1 year of experience in a high-complexity clinical laboratory setting.
