Title: Histotechnician
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Duration: 4+ Months (Possible Extension/ Temp to Hire)
2 Shifts Available: Mon-Fri (11:00 pm to 7:30 am) & (5:00 am to 1:30 pm)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Histotechnician to support the preparation and processing of tissue specimens for microscopic examination by pathologists. The ideal candidate will perform histology laboratory procedures including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, slide preparation, staining, quality control, and documentation while ensuring compliance with laboratory safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare routine and non-routine histology slides for microscopic evaluation by pathologists.
- Perform specimen accessioning, process laboratory paperwork, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Process tissue specimens using established laboratory protocols.
- Perform tissue embedding and microtomy for approved specimen types under the supervision of the Histology Manager or Supervisor.
- Prepare slides for routine Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining.
- Perform manual or automated coverslipping of stained slides.
- Perform special staining procedures as assigned and approved by the Histology Manager or Supervisor.
- Operate, clean, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment.
- File and maintain completed tissue blocks and microscope slides.
- Follow laboratory quality control (QC) procedures and accurately document all quality control activities.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory quality assurance (QA) standards and safety protocols.
- Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.
- Assist with additional laboratory duties and special projects as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Degree (A.A. or A.S.) in a related scientific field with at least 1 year of Histology experience within the last 10 years, OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 5 years of full-time Histotechnician experience within the last 10 years.
- HT (ASCP) certification, ASCP eligible, or equivalent qualification based on five years of qualifying full-time histology experience.
- Knowledge of histology laboratory procedures, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining, and slide preparation.
- Familiarity with laboratory quality control, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance requirements.
