Title: Surgical Technologis II – CVOR
Location: Houston TX 77030
Duration: 13 weeks
Schedule: Shift will be 6:30am-5:00pm with a day off during the week. On-Call is a requirement (4*10)
Duties: To handle instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during congenital heart surgery procedures, assisting the physician while performing related patient care duties in an age appropriate manner as assigned by the circulating nurse (RN).
Responsibilites:
- Prepares and assists with the preparation of the CV operating room according to the needs and age appropriateness of the patient and the surgical procedure as evidenced by the following, but not limited to: knowledge of surgical pathology as related to the planned surgical intervention; knowledge of allergies (awareness of high risk groups for latex allergy); knowledge and preparation of special equipment i.e., implants, prostheses, instrumentation per procedure/preference.
- Applies knowledge of the surgical procedure by anticipating the needs of the surgeon, having supplies opened or readily available in a cost effective manner as observed by the circulating nurse/nurse manager. Seeks the assistance of the circulating nurse and references the preference card when unable to make a decision regarding opening versus readily available.
- Attends and participates in services and other continuing education opportunities to maintain professional development.
- Maintains correct count of sponges, needles, and instruments according to the established policy and procedure 100% of
- the time as observed by the circulating nurse.
- Assists in the care and labeling of specimens 100% of the time as observed by the circulating nurse.
- Acknowledges the importance of patient safety by participating in the Universal Protocol.
- Performs patient care related duties
Required:
- Looking for cardiothoracic experience, not cardiovascular.
- Must have prior experience scrubbing cardiac bypass/pump cases
- Required- 2 years Experience as a surgical technologist and has experience in two or more surgical specialties

Skills:
Knowledge of a wide variety of instrumentation, equipment, supplies, and surgical procedures particular to an operating room.
Ability to communicate effectively, be attentive, and anticipate the needs of the surgeon.
Ability to operate sterilizers, micro Products, and surgical equipment related to surgical specialties, i.e., fiberoptic equipment, electrocautery unit, suction machines, orthopedic tourniquets, air powered equipment, etc. is required.
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and commitment to meeting customer needs.
Required: H.S. Diploma or GED
Required- Educational program completion for surgical technologists which may include training programs for surgical technology in the army, navy, air force, marine
corps, or coast guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service”
Required:
- CST-SUR – Cert-Cert Surgical TECH
- National Board of Surgical Technology and
- Surgical Assisting OR TSC-NCCT – Cert-TECH Surgery – Certified National Center for Competency Testing
- Required- 2 years Experience as a surgical technologist and has experience in two or more surgical specialties
