Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Specimen Technician I to join our laboratory operations team in Cleveland, OH. This role is responsible for supporting the Specimen Processing Department by performing a variety of specimen handling, data entry, and laboratory support functions in a fast-paced production environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a biohazard laboratory setting while maintaining quality and productivity standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform specimen processing functions including:
- Specimen receiving and accessioning (A-station)
- Presorting specimens
- Pickup and delivery of processed specimens to laboratory departments
- Imaging and microfilming activities
- Centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens
- Accurately enter and process specimen information while maintaining high productivity standards.
- Achieve data entry requirements of approximately 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Ensure specimens are processed accurately, efficiently, and within established turnaround times.
- Learn and understand various specimen types and testing requirements.
- Maintain compliance with laboratory regulations, policies, and changing test-ordering requirements.
- Follow all safety, quality assurance, and compliance procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other departments.
- Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing priorities and customer needs.
- Support departmental goals related to productivity, quality, and customer satisfaction.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced laboratory production environment.
- Exposure to biohazardous materials while following established safety protocols.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Night shift position with potential requirements for weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call coverage based on business needs.
