Job Summary
- Assists with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a provider (Physician or Advanced Practice Provider).
Responsibilities
- Assists with treatments ordered by the provider, under the supervision of the provider or a Registered Nurse. Performs select clinical duties.
- Interviews patients, measures vital signs, and records patient information in medical charts. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations.
- Performs basic clerical duties, including answering phones, maintaining records, and filing documents.
- Performs basic materials management functions, including ordering and stocking supplies. Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment.
- May document the provider’s encounters with patients. Records diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions, as directed by the provider.
- Transcribes patient orders, including laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.
Skills
Licensure / Certification / Registration
Required Credentials:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification through the American Heart Association.
- Medical Assistant certification. Any issuing authority is accepted.
Complexity of Work
- Requires critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work effectively in a stressful environment.
Personal Protective Equipment
- Follows Standard Precautions and uses personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
