Job Title: Chemist
Pay Rate: $40/Hr on W2
Summary:
Provide hands-on technical support to Column Production, primarily focused on troubleshooting column packing and testing failures, analyzing chromatographic performance, and supporting process improvements. The position requires strong analytical and chromatography experience with a working understanding of polymer chemistry, chromatography resins, silica stationary phases, and surface chemistry to evaluate how material properties may affect column performance.
Responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day technical troubleshooting support for column packing, testing, and qualification failures.
- Investigate issues involving efficiency, peak asymmetry, resolution, retention, selectivity, backpressure, and flow behavior.
- Analyze chromatograms, pressure profiles, packing parameters, manufacturing records, and qualification data to identify potential root causes.
- Differentiate between failures related to packing, equipment, column hardware, testing conditions, stationary-phase properties, or manufacturing execution.
- Support optimization of packing pressure, flow rate, slurry conditions, equipment parameters, and other critical manufacturing variables.
- Design and execute experiments to improve column packing reproducibility, first-pass yield, and process robustness.
- Apply working knowledge of polymer/resin and silica chemistry to understand potential material-related impacts on column performance.
- Work directly with Manufacturing Technicians, SMEs, RQ, Engineering, Quality, and R&D during troubleshooting activities.
- Document investigations, experimental results, and technical recommendations.
- Support development and revision of SOPs, work instructions, troubleshooting guides, and manufacturing documentation.
- Assist with training Manufacturing personnel on improved troubleshooting methods and process changes.
Required Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry.
- 3 years of relevant industry experience in chromatography, process development, analytical development, or manufacturing support.
- Hands-on experience with HPLC, IC, or related chromatography systems strongly preferred.
- Experience troubleshooting chromatography columns, packing processes, or analytical systems is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of polymer chemistry, chromatography resins, silica materials, and surface chemistry.
- Strong analytical, data interpretation, root cause investigation, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with DOE, JMP, or statistical data analysis is a plus.
- Experience working in GMP, ISO, or other regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
- Must be comfortable working hands-on with Manufacturing personnel and equipment in a production environment.
