Job Title: Lab Assistant – 1st Shift
Location: Miramar, FL
Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Tuesday – Saturday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Assistant to support daily laboratory operations in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will perform routine laboratory functions, specimen processing, quality control activities, and various support tasks to assist laboratory professionals while ensuring accurate and efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, sort, and process incoming specimens.
- Prepare specimens for testing, including aliquoting, labeling, inoculation, and slide preparation.
- Build worklists and ensure specimens meet testing requirements.
- Centrifuge specimens and perform specimen storage and retrieval activities.
- Print additional labels and maintain accurate laboratory documentation.
- Record temperature logs and other required laboratory data.
- Prepare reagents and media as needed.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated equipment.
- Execute assigned Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities.
- Monitor and resolve pending worklists and locate missing samples.
- Maintain departmental files and laboratory records.
- Decontaminate work areas and maintain a clean, safe laboratory environment.
- Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests as required.
- Change gas cylinders safely and according to laboratory procedures.
- Utilize laboratory information systems and computer applications efficiently.
- Dispose of biohazardous materials in compliance with safety standards.
- Follow all PPE requirements, laboratory protocols, and safety regulations.
- Complete required training programs and competency assessments.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant training is a plus.
- Coursework in Math and Science preferred.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to operate laboratory systems and PCs.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
