Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist I
Location: Clifton, NJ 07012
Duration: 6 Months / Temp To Hire
Shift: Sunday to Thursday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Payrate: $40.00 per hour on w2 contract
Job Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and maintaining patient test records.
- Process proficiency testing samples using the same procedures as patient specimens.
- Analyze specimens using approved testing methods.
- Review, verify, and release test results.
- Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and all laboratory safety regulations.
- Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when testing systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
- Identify issues that may affect test performance or result reporting.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems when possible or promptly notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
- Maintain accurate and complete laboratory documentation.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry strongly preferred.
- Official transcripts will be requested during the hiring process.
Experience
- 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing preferred.
- Experience with LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) or ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and work at a laboratory bench for extended periods.
- Frequent walking and standing throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and carry:
- 1–10 lbs: Frequently
- 11–25 lbs: Occasionally
- 36–50 lbs: Rarely
- Over 50 lbs: Only with assistance
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of laboratory quality standards and regulatory compliance.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Strong communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with laboratory staff.
