Monday to Friday, 9:00 PM – 5:30 AM, OR
Monday to Friday, 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Pre-Analytical Assistant I to support laboratory operations within the Technical Operations Department. This role is responsible for specimen processing activities, including sorting, racking, centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and transportation of specimens. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment, and a commitment to quality, compliance, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Perform specimen processing functions including:
- Sorting and racking specimens
- Specimen pickup and delivery within the laboratory
- Specimen storage and retrieval
- Centrifugation and aliquoting procedures
- Archive and specimen handling activities
Ensure accurate identification and handling of specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
Identify and resolve specimen-related issues such as missing information, incorrect specimen types, or labeling discrepancies.
Assist in maintaining quality and production standards while meeting turnaround time expectations.
Research test order information using laboratory systems, translation tables, and service directories.
Complete required documentation accurately, legibly, and within designated timelines.
Support department operations by maintaining attendance, schedule flexibility, and assisting during peak workloads, weekends, holidays, overtime, or as needed.
Learn and perform additional functions within Technical Operations and Specimen Processing as required.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment following 5S standards and laboratory safety protocols.
Adhere to company policies, compliance requirements, and safety regulations.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.
Basic data entry and computer skills.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Ability to understand specimen types, handling requirements, and laboratory procedures.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work accurately under pressure in a production-driven environment.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Ability to adapt to changing procedures, priorities, and compliance requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Medical or healthcare background preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology related to clinical laboratory operations.
Previous experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or production environment preferred.
Familiarity with mainframe computer systems or laboratory information systems.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods.
Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.
Ability to push and maneuver specimen carts and rack systems.
Comfortable working in a biohazard laboratory environment while following all safety protocols.
