Job Title: Lab Technician
Duration: 6 months (possibility to extend)
Location: Lexington, MA, On-site
Shift: 1st shift, flexible
Pay: $30-35/hr. on W2
Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will support various laboratory tasks, including sample preparation, data collection, documentation, and ordering related to developing innovative solutions to address challenges in human health. This position will require being on-site at least 4 of 5 days per week, with the option of working hybrid 1 day per week.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and process biological samples for microbiome analysis (e.g., extract DNA and/or RNA from single strain or microbial communities)
Conduct routine laboratory tests and experiments following established protocols
Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments and results
Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments
Assist in the development and optimization of experimental procedures
Ensure compliance with safety and hygiene standards in the lab
Collaborate with researchers and other lab personnel to achieve project goals
Participate in team meetings and contribute to scientific discussions
Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stocks, manage chemical inventory and safety records, assist in instrument maintenance
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, or related field
Previous laboratory experience, preferably in microbiome research or related studies
Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as DNA extraction, PCR, and microbial culture
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Familiarity with data analysis software and tools is a plus
Prior experience with electronic notebook systems is a plus
candidates must be able to lift 50 lbs. Also, work in Biosafety Level 2 environment required. No respirator required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, biochemistry, or related field
