Unit Overview
The Labor & Delivery unit provides care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery, including high-risk antepartum and postpartum patients. The unit includes OB Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, operating rooms, and PACU areas.
Travel nurses may work in OBED, L&D, and OB PACU. Previous L&D operating room experience is required, including the ability to circulate C-sections.
Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse provides safe, competent, and patient-centered nursing care in accordance with professional standards. The RN assesses patient needs, develops and implements individualized care plans, evaluates outcomes, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to Labor & Delivery and high-risk obstetric patients.
- Perform patient assessments and identify physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Triage obstetric patients and prioritize care based on clinical condition.
- Care for patients during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
- Circulate C-sections and provide appropriate perioperative nursing care.
- Perform bedside point-of-care testing as required.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
- Monitor patient conditions and communicate significant changes to the healthcare team.
- Provide patient and family education based on individual learning needs.
- Support discharge planning and continuity of care.
- Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation.
- Follow nursing standards, hospital policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement and unit performance initiatives.
- Promote a safe, clean, and secure patient-care environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience.
- Previous Labor & Delivery experience required.
- Previous L&D operating room experience required.
- Must be able to circulate C-sections.
- Must be able to perform OB triage.
- Current and active Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification through AWHONN or an accepted equivalent is required.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to care for patients with complex and high-risk obstetric needs.
