Job Summary:
- The Phlebotomist II / Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) is responsible for providing high-quality patient service while performing accurate and safe blood specimen collection. This position involves direct patient interaction, specimen processing, patient identification, documentation, and maintaining a professional and confidential environment.
- The successful candidate may work in a Patient Service Center, physician office, or other assigned locations based on business needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture, Pediatric, geriatric, and capillary blood collections safely and accurately.
- Collect and process clinical and forensic specimens according to established procedures.
- Verify patient identification, demographics, initials, and required information.
- Obtain patient signature after venipuncture to verify that specimens are properly labeled in the patient’s presence.
- Prepare and label specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining specimen integrity.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and required paperwork.
- Provide professional, compassionate, and customer-focused service to patients.
- Explain collection procedures clearly and create an atmosphere of trust and confidence.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and accuracy of patient information.
- Follow all company Policies & Procedures, Employee Health & Safety requirements, dress code, and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting daily productivity and quality expectations.
- Handle multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Travel between Patient Service Centers and in-office phlebotomy locations as required.
- Support staffing needs, including schedule flexibility, overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments when required.
- Demonstrate strong communication, teamwork, adaptability, and customer-service skills.
- Promote a positive image of the organization to patients, clients, employees, and the public.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent – Required.
- 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience required.
- Experience with pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections required.
- Strong venipuncture and specimen collection skills.
- Ability to provide quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Ability to make sound decisions and exercise good judgment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.
- Basic keyboard and data-entry skills.
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2 years of Patient Service Center experience preferred.
- Medical Assistant or Paramedic training preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred; certification is required in applicable states.
- Previous retail, healthcare, or service-related customer service experience highly preferred.
