Job Title: Specimen Technician

Job Location: Cleveland, OH

Duration: 3+ Months

Shift Schedule: Third shift 7pm-330am EST FRI-TUE

Summary:

The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background. All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner. The job is complex and requires that the employee has good organization skills and is able to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by the client. This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction. The department is a production environment, with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times.

Responsibilities:

• Perform A-station, presort, pickup, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Handle imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
• Learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change daily.
• Adapt to many different demands made by the customer.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
• Maintain a neat and clean work area.
• Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.

Required Skills:

• Basic understanding of computers with a preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
• Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.
• Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
• Demonstrate flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous laboratory experience preferred but not required.
• Medical background preferred, including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
• Previous experience in a production environment preferred.
